Two Middlesbrough cafes have recently received a gift of breastfeeding pillows so that they can make new mums feel extra welcome.

TP Coffee House and Café and Off the Ground Coffee, both relatively new businesses in central Middlesbrough, received the pillows as a gift from Middlesbrough Breastfeeding Pillow Library in April, in recognition of their commitment to welcoming breastfeeding mums. The pillows can make some new mums feel extra comfortable when feeding their babies, as they reduce strain on the back and wrists.

Both cafes are registered with the Breastfeeding Welcome Scheme: a database of premises who particularly welcome breastfeeding mums. The cafes are also working with Middlesbrough Breastfeeding Pillow Library to host breastfeeding social groups. At these socials, new mums can get used to feeding their babies out and about, try or borrow a breastfeeding pillow, and speak to other breastfeeding mums and a trained Breastfeeding Peer Supporter about any issues they are facing.

Kate Reader (Chair of Middlesbrough Breastfeeding Pillow Library) said "Both these cafes show brilliant commitment to making breastfeeding mums welcome and making breastfeeding feel a normal part of life. We hope new mums will feel extra comfortable feeding their babies at these cafes now with the help of these breastfeeding pillows".

If you are expecting a baby or breastfeeding, and would like to come along to a social meet, details are as follows:
TP Coffee House and Café, every Thursday, 1-2.30pm
Off The Ground Coffee, every Monday, 1-2.30pm

If you would like to find out about borrowing a breastfeeding pillow for a low cost donation, contact, or visit the Facebook Page Middlesbrough Breastfeeding Pillow Library.  The Library also has a small fund available to help mums train in breastfeeding peer support, and mums are very welcome to get in touch for more details.
