ageing better middlesbrough history walk on the transporter bridge

From hula hooping and history walks to culture, curry and crafts, Ageing Better Middlesbrough has released its latest programme of free taster sessions.

With 35 different activities to try at 60 sessions located all across town, Community Projects Officer Linda Ford, from the National Lottery funded Ageing Better Middlesbrough, is helping residents get out and about.

Linda said: "Our free taster sessions help people try something new or rediscover an old hobby in a relaxed environment. Anyone aged over 50 is welcome to come along.

"There is something planned nearly everyday up to the end of October and there really is something for everyone."

There will be two drop in sessions for people to come along, meet the Ageing Better team and sign up for an activity or two. Stop by on:

• Monday 7th August, between midday and 2pm at Marks and Spencer café, Hillstreet Centre, 25 Linthorpe Rd, Middlesbrough TS1 1RH

• Thursday 10th August, between 10am and midday at Acklam Community Hub and Library, Acklam Rd, Middlesbrough TS5 7AB – refreshments available.

Taster sessions can also be booked by contacting Linda on 07981 203 997 or emailing her lindaford@hope-foundation.org.uk

Linda added: "Ageing Better has an active membership of more than 1400 individuals.

"For anyone who might be feeling lonely or unsure of joining a new group, our members are proof that taking that first step to go to a taster session can lead to much more – making new friends and finding old ones again, reminiscing, having fun and feeling part of your community.

"We are a friendly bunch who want to help make people's lives better as they get older."

Encouraging people to stay active and take up hobbies in later life is a key part of Ageing Better Middlesbrough that is working to reduce loneliness and isolation for people over 50 in Middlesbrough.

Joining Ageing Better Middlesbrough is free with members receiving a regular newsletter and what's on guide. Find out more at www.ageingbettermiddlesbrough.org.uk
