Boro have unveiled a Fantastic Friday half-price ticket offer for the visit of Sheffield Wednesday to the Riverside on November 9.

Tickets for the evening kick-off (7.45pm) will be available for just £12 adults and £7 for concessions. That’s a massive 50% off the usual matchday price and means a parent and child can watch the game together for under £20.

Manager Tony Mowbray hopes the move will encourage thousands of fans to come and back the team as they step up their mission to restore the club’s Premier League status.

"The fans have a huge part to play in bringing success back to our club,” he said.

“Maybe it’s just because I’m from the area, but I think we have a unique football club that has a very special role in the lives of the people of Teesside. It's in our blood.

"Having sat in a packed Riverside as a fan, I know it makes so much difference for the team and gives the players a much better chance of winning football matches.

“We saw that last season when we had around 27,000 in for the games against Hull City and Sunderland and they were rewarded with two very good performances.

"Hopefully our supporters will respond to this offer and we’ll see a good crowd getting behind their team for this game.”

Chief executive Neil Bausor added: “We fully understand the problems fans face in finding money to attend games, particularly in the current financial climate. The sight of empty seats has been hard for us all and reminds us all just how tough these times are.

"Yet the fans are also aware that ticketing revenue is vital to the future of this club. They know that every penny they invest goes towards the building of a side we can all be proud of.

"However, we have listened to what our fans are saying. I am sure that everyone on Teesside will hope this half-price ticket offer can help to restore links with lost fans and hopefully encourage some of the next generation or Boro fans to come along to a game. We would love to see energy and passion coming from the empty seats.

"Big crowds backing Tony and the lads for the remainder of the season will surely give us a greater chance to get back to where we all want to be – the Premier League.

"I really hope our supporters turn out in force for the game and that we have a special Riverside night for all to enjoy.”
