Prague Symphony Orchestra

Middlesbrough Town Hall’s new Classical music season continues with a keenly anticipated visit by the Prague Symphony Orchestra on Wednesday 7 November.

The night with another of Europe’s leading orchestra’s follows hot on the heels of a rousing performance by the St Petersburg Symphony Orchestra last month, and sees the very welcome Town Hall return of guest soloist Igor Tchetuev.

Founded in the autumn of 1934, the Prague Symphony Orchestra quickly established itself as one of Europe’s finest orchestras, and will be led tonight by Heiko Matthias Forster.

Widely regarded as one of the most compelling conductors today, Heiko has led major orchestras all over the world.

Brilliant young pianist Igor Tchetuev is hailed as one of the brightest musicians of his generation, and the 32 year-old Ukranian has already played with a string of top orchestras including Orchestre National de France, Halle Orchestra, Moscow Virtuosi, St Petersburg Symphony, Polish National Orchestra, Miami New World Symphony and plenty more besides.

The Orchestra opens the evening with Smetana’s scintillating Bartered Bride Overture, before Igor Tchetuev takes centre stage for Beethoven’s wonderful Piano Concerto No. 4.

After the interval, the orchestra will perform Janacek’s mysterious and rarely performed Adagio, followed by Dvorak’s Symphony No. 8.

Rob Guest of Middlesbrough Town Hall said: “The chance to hear a leading Czech orchestra play a definitive version of one of Dvorak’s symphonic masterpieces will be one of the highlights of the season.”
