About the event...

We are celebrating the centenary of a football match that took place on 18 May 1918. Appropriately in the year when we celebrate the centenary of women gaining the right to vote, the football match involves women. In May 1918 two women’s football teams met in the final of a football cup at Ayresome Park. They were watched by a crowd of 22,000 spectators. 100 years later students from Middlesbrough College, male and female, will commemorate and remember the First World War with two matches – one recalling the Boxing Day football that took place in No Man’s Land in December 1914, the other the match that took place 100 years ago on 18 May 1918.

The matches will be preceded by a presentation about the events of 100 years ago by Time Traveler, Martin Peagam.
